When it comes to China's film industry going global, the blockbuster "The Wandering Earth II" cannot be ignored.

Following the hugely successful release in 2019 of the "The Wandering Earth," the prequel movie debuted in China during this year's Spring Festival, taking audiences on a thought-provoking journey and thrusting Chinese science-fiction films into the spotlight once again.

Fu Ruoqing, Chairman of China Film Cooperation, who also produced "The Wandering Earth II," said the market feedback in North America, Australia, New Zealand and the UK has already exceeded expectations. "After being released in more than 30 countries and regions, it has raked in over 100 million yuan(14.4 million U.S. dollars)at the box office," he said.

It even scored a whopping 97 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes as further proof of its high quality and hit status.

"The Wandering Earth II" tells the story of mankind trying to save the planet and human civilization as the Sun rapidly begins to burn out. The movie series is adapted from a novel by Chinese Hugo Award winner and science-fiction writer Liu Cixin.

Fu said the sci-fi values of "The Wandering Earth II" and the values of a shared future community for humanity have resonated with audiences regardless of their nationality or where they live.

"In my opinion, among all the films that China has made in recent years, this is the one that will resonate the most on the international market, and it can best reflect China's current state of development," Fu said.
