China and India should promote the transition of the border situation to normalized management, Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Li Shangfu said on Thursday.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of the Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in New Delhi, India. The two sides exchanged views on relations between the two countries and militaries.
Li said that as major neighboring countries and important developing countries, China and India share far more common interests than differences. The two sides should view bilateral relations and each other's development from a comprehensive, long-term and strategic perspective, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to world and regional peace and stability.
Currently, the situation on China-India border is generally stable and the two sides have maintained communication through military and diplomatic channels, he said, adding that the two sides should take a long-term view and place the border issue in an appropriate position in bilateral relations.
It is hoped that the two countries will work together to continuously enhance mutual trust between their militaries and make proper contributions to the development of bilateral relations, Li added.
Li is attending the defense ministers' meeting of the SCO in India on Thursday and Friday.
