China has lodged serious representation to the Republic of Korea (ROK) over erroneous remarks concerning China in a joint U.S.-ROK statement, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Friday.
Liu Jinsong, director-general of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Department of Asian Affairs, met on Thursday night with the minister of the ROK embassy in Beijing, Kang Sang-wook, and expressed China's strong dissatisfaction, emphasized its solemn position on the Taiwan question and urged the ROK to abide earnestly by the one-China principle.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday also slammed the remarks that ROK President Yoon Suk-yeol made on the Battle of Lake Changjin, saying that practices of bullying the weak and engaging in expansion and invasion are destined to lose.
"With solid facts, the war has shown the world that if any country or military chooses to stand on the wrong side of history, bully the weak, act against the will of the people and engage in territorial expansion or invasion, it will pay dearly for its egregious acts," Mao said.
The spokesperson made the remarks after Yoon in a state visit to Washington applauded the United States' 1st Marine Division at the Battle of Lake Changjin during the 1950-53 Korean War.
