Republic of Korea (ROK) President Yoon Suk Yeol's recent trip to the United States was the "most hostile, aggressive and provocative" and raised the dangers of a nuclear war, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) state media KCNA said in a commentary on Sunday.
KCNA's remarks came after Yoon and U.S. President Joe Biden signed the so-called "Washington Declaration," a pact that gives Seoul detailed insights into, and a voice in, U.S. contingency planning to deter and respond to any nuclear incident in the region through a U.S.-South Korea Nuclear Consultative Group.
Under the pact, the U.S. will also scale up joint military exercises with the ROK and expand the deployment of its strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula, moves KCNA said "are making a nuclear war against the DPRK a fait accompli."
The levels of belligerence against the DPRK in the Biden-Yoon talks this time were unprecedented as "they designated the DPRK as a target for a nuclear attack publicly to the world," KCNA said.
Calling Yoon a "puppet traitor," KCNA said he is "turning South Korea into a U.S. arsenal," which harms the stability of not only the Korean Peninsula but also the wider region.
