In the Beijing Satellite Manufacturing Factory, a team worked for two years to develop a coating technique that keeps the Chinese national flag painted on the space station's surface glowing. The station permanently flies in low Earth orbit, where adverse elements like an extreme vacuum and ultraviolet irradiation could incur traditional logo coating to fade, crack and peel off. To solve the problem, technicians developed an entirely new coating material package after thousands of analyses and tests, which allows the flag to retain its original colors throughout the life of the space station.
