Tear gas and smoke bombs fired at protesters in Paris
00:54

Thousands marched in one of France's biggest May Day demonstrations in years, mobilized against French President Emmanuel Macron's recent move to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. A section of protesters allegedly shattered windows of stores and banks. The police responded by firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs at the protesters. Some protesters hurled the tear gas canisters back at the police. A plume of black smoke billowed into the air after demonstrators ignited a fire near a building under construction. The protest descended into clashes between police and protesters.
