Like so many Chinese cities, Jinan in Shandong is often added to travelers’ itinerary as it has a vast trove of history-and culture-related assets. Among them, the Baihuazhou historical and cultural block is without a doubt a must-visit. It offers a concentration of chic shops and spaces all within walking distance of each other, and plenty of traditional art and culture to enjoy.

Early in 2022, the area was listed among the first batch of 54 state-level blocks for tourism and leisure by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In order to be listed, those blocks must bear a distinctive local style and have a strong cultural theme.

Over a hundred intangible cultural heritage items and traditional handicrafts such as shadow puppets, paper-cutting and wood carvings are available at Baihuazhou. Art and culture is not only found in shops but is practically breathed into the ancient architecture that was built hundreds of years ago.
As a demonstrative zone for the preservation of traditional architecture that has been renovated for modern use by the local government, Baihuazhou tells the story of the city in olden times, allowing visitors to switch seamlessly between old traditions and the modern day.

Within walking distance of this historical and cultural hub, tourists can quickly access other famous spots in the city like Baotu Spring and Daming Lake Park. Dubbed "a city of a thousand springs," Jinan boasts more than 1,000 natural springs. These are easy for travelers to find while strolling along the block, just some of the vast selection of surprises waiting to be discovered.
