A 14-year-old schoolboy opened fire on students and security guards in a school in Belgrade on Wednesday, killing at least nine people and injuring seven others, local media reported citing the country's interior ministry.

The ministry said the police were informed at 8:40 a.m. of the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in the Municipality of Vracar.

Several shots were fired from the shooter's father's gun in the direction of the students and security of this school. The suspect - a seventh grade student - was arrested by police at the scene.

Veselin Milic, head of Belgrade police, said the attacker had two guns, two petrol bombs and had planned everything ahead of time. "He even had ... names of children he wanted to kill and their classes," he told a press conference.

According to Serbia's public broadcaster RTS, the eight deceased are a security guard and eight kids. One teacher and three children are at the Emergency Medical Center in Belgrade, while three more children are at the children's hospital.

"The school is closed. Something like this has never been recorded in the history of Belgrade schools," Milan Nedeljkovic, president of the Municipality of Vracar, told RTS.

Serbian government has declared a three-day national mourning period, which will begin on Friday.
