China's Qin Haiyang broke the men's 100m breaststroke Asian record as he won the final in 57.93 seconds at the Chinese National Swimming Championships on Tuesday.
Qin smashed the previous record of 58.63 seconds set by China's Yan Zibei, who finished right behind him on Tuesday in 58.79, followed by Sun Jiajun in 58.99.
Earlier in March, Qin broke the 50m breaststroke Asian record at the Spring national championships with a time of 26.63 seconds.
According to Qin, 23, he hopes to win all three breaststroke gold medals at the upcoming Asian Games set to take place in east China's Hangzhou from September to October.
Meanwhile, Olympic champion Ye Shiwen took silver in the women's 200m medley in two minutes 10.70 seconds, behind 17-year-old Yu Yiting who won gold with a personal best of 2:08.34.
Li Bingjie won the women's 200m freestyle in 1:55.62, her second victory at the tournament after winning the women's 1,500m freestyle a day ago. Wan Letian won the women's 50m backstroke in 27.51. Xu Jiayu won the men's 50m backstroke in 24.54, following a top finish in the 100m final on Monday. In the men's 50m freestyle, Wang Changhao edged 100m freestyle champion Pan Zhanle to win the title in 22.01. Team Zhejiang won the men's 200m freestyle relay in 7:07.29 to wrap up Tuesday's proceedings.
The national championships runs from May 1 to 6, and serves as a qualifier for the world championships in Fukuoka, Japan, in July and the Hangzhou Asian Games.
