China's consumer market saw a boom on May 1, or Labor Day, with the sales at key retail and catering enterprises surging 15.6 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. In a breakdown, key retail enterprises reported they sold 25.1 percent and 24 percent more cars and clothing, respectively, than on the same day last year. Retail sales of cosmetics and jewelry rose 19.9 percent and 9.6 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the sales at key catering businesses showed a year-on-year growth of 61.7 percent, official data showed.
