EU ambassadors have reached a deal to implement joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine, Swedish EU presidency said Wednesday.

"The EU Ambassadors approved decision on assistance measure under the European Peace Facility to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces through 1 billion euros for joint procurement of ammunition and missiles," it announced.

Earlier on Wednesday, the EU presented a proposal to boost ammunition production in Europe to replace depleted stocks as it arms Ukraine amid conflict with Russia.

The plan, which would pour 500 million euros ($550 million) from the EU budget into increasing ammunition production, "will help supply more ammunition for Ukraine to defend its citizens and it will also strengthen our European defense capabilities," commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said.
