Editor's Note: Chinese culture has integrated seamlessly with Caribbean culture in Guyana. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, president of Guyana, calls the Chinese a part of the country and its bloodline. In this Leaders Talk exclusive, the 42-year-old tells Wang Guan how Guyana establishing diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China created opportunities for both and why the one-China principle is important not only for China but also for stability in the Caribbean. He sees scope for further cooperation with Chinese companies in developing Guyana's nascent oil and gas industry on one hand, and pursuing a low-carbon development strategy on the other. He also thinks China can provide leadership to pull the world out of today's multiple crises and create a new system.
