Several groups of Francois' leaf langurs were spotted at the Jinfo Mountain Nature Reserve in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. The black monkeys are under first-class state protection. The estimated global population is only 2,000. They are listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The Jinfo Mountain Nature Reserve is one of their few habitats.
