A heavy sandstorm has affected southern areas of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region since May 2. Video clips taken by residents in Wensu County on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert captured a "sand wall" nearly 100 meters high towering over a local highway. Once vehicles ran into the "wall," visibility was limited to less than 100 meters. Local weather authorities said the sandstorm will start to subside from May 5.
