The lifting of COVID-19 restrictions is seeing major theatrical productions return to Chinese stages. In Shanghai, artists from all over the world are bringing some of the biggest international productions to town. In March alone, Shanghai held over 900 performances, a more than 75-percent increase from the same period in 2019. And this figure is only expected to become larger with more productions returning.
CGTN's Chen Tong pays a visit backstage for the production of the Mandarin version of "The Phantom of Opera" and spoke to Zhao Chenlin, show producer of the adaptation, to find out the potential of the performing arts industry.
