China strengthens cross-sector comprehensive supervision in medical beauty industry, according to a statement published on Thursday.
The statement urged to build a "coordinated and efficient industrial supervision system" from multiple aspects, such as registration management, qualification review, joint inspection and coordinated supervision.
The statement was jointly issued by eleven departments, including the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the Ministry of Public Security and the Supreme People's Court.
The move was to "protect people's health and life safety, maintain the order of medical beauty treatment and market, and promote the healthy and orderly development of the industry," said the statement.
The statement classified medical beauty services as medical activities, and said that related clinics' access must abide by the laws and regulations related to the health industry.
The SAMR said on its website that it, with other 10 departments, had convened actions to crack down on illegal medical beauty services from September 2022 to February 2023, but there still exists risks and challenges in the industry.
The new action is to remove illegal institutions, doctors and medicine, and to provide a fairer and more orderly market for the industry's healthy development in accordance with laws and regulations, it added.
