Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a history going back thousands of years. These days, it's getting a modern twist and taste. Located in the heart of Beijing's trendy Sanlitun district, there is a bar that builds its cocktails around traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients. It says it's making traditional Chinese medicine that's just as tasty as it is healthy.

Stepping into the bar from the nearby office blocks is like entering another world. It's a space and design that is a nod to the pharmacies of the past. Medicine is the focal point of the bar's décor. Before setting free your rush of adrenaline, the most important thing is to be sure to consult a medical doctor before downing any TCM cocktails.

Up to 50 kinds of herbs are being used in the bar. Doctor Zhai Xu, who also works there, has been studying for years how to harmonize traditional Chinese medicine theory with cocktail culture.

"According to traditional Chinese medicine, alcohol has the function of warming the meridians and dredging the collaterals, improving blood circulation and dispersing stasis, and we match it with traditional Chinese medicine, which is also a good way of maintaining health," he said.

"We tasted hundreds of Chinese herbal medicines. We selected some medicines with a special aroma. We also neutralized the medicinal aroma of medicine with the aroma of fruits," he added.

Wang Xiaopang, a customer, said his family business is related to TCM. He said the owner of the bar should change his drinks list according to the season. "Traditional Chinese Medicine pays attention to the process of slowly maintaining one's health," he said.

Blending old traditions and new flavors in every sip, the bar's herbal cocktail experience transports people to a place of ancient mystery and whimsical fantasy. The thought of sipping a healthy cocktail makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
