Chinese cinemagoers have reportedly scored an approval rating of 83.3 out of 100 points in a satisfaction survey covering films hitting the big screen during last week's May Day holiday, notching up a record high in recent years.

Conducted by the China Film Art Research Center, the survey questioned Chinese moviegoers about their satisfaction levels for seven of a total of around 20 films that premiered during the 5-day holiday, among which, "Born to Fly" – a domestic action movie that turned a rare spotlight on the bravery of test pilots in the Chinese air force – charmed audiences with the top satisfaction rating of 84.7 points.

All seven films in the survey – which encompassed a wide range of genres from military movies to comedy, romance, disaster films and suspense – were graced by a viewer satisfaction rating of more than 80 points.

China has recorded a well-performed May Day holiday box office this year, amassing around 1.52 billion yuan (about $220 million) over the five-day period, with the country's domestic films accounting for around 86.5 percent of the takings.
