With continuous temperature rise in May, some thin ice on the surface of Sayram Lake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region began to thaw, pushing other frozen parts to the shore through waves.

Locals call this stunning spectacle "ice shove." The natural phenomenon occurs each year on the Sayram Lake. The lake usually freezes in late December and melts in May.

Located in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, the Sayram Lake is China's largest inland freshwater lake and highest alpine lake at an altitude of over 2,000 meters.
