Residents in rain-soaked areas of east China's Jiangxi Province are counting the cost of flooding triggered by torrential rain, as clean-up and repair efforts got underway after a break in the weather, with the downpour gradually abating from Saturday evening.
Rain battered the cities of Ji'an, Fuzhou and Nanchang on Friday and Saturday, destroying crops and causing severe damage to houses.
In Xiajiang County, Ji'an City, over 100 millimeters of rain fell in 24 hours, while Yanxi Town received more than 200 millimeters of rain that caused widespread flooding.
Floodwaters have receded from farmland, roads and houses in Xingan County in Ji'an City. However, thick silt and mud remain to be cleared up, with water trucks hosing down streets and families drying off their personal belongings.
Local authorities have dispatched agricultural technicians to flood-hit fields in the county's Maixie Township to help assess the damage and advise farmers on ways they can save some 260 hectares of fields and their crops.
Heavy bulldozers were deployed to mend a breach in a local levee, which lies underneath a railway bridge in Licun County.
The crew completed the restoration work on Sunday by securing the embankment and reinforcing the railway abutment.
