After years of efforts to improve the ecological environment, a village in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has welcomed large flocks of migratory birds, mainly egrets and herons.

Some 1,000-strong flock, composed of egrets, intermediate egrets and black-crowned night herons, arrived in Fenghuang Village in late April.

Every day at 7 a.m., the male birds fly from their roost to look for food and return home around 6 p.m., while female birds stay in the nests, busy hatching or feeding the babies.

In recent years, local authorities have been beefing up efforts to improve the local ecology, creating a better habitat for the feathered visitors to stay in the area.

Since 2016, large flocks of migratory egrets have been stopping over in the village to rest and breed from late April until the beginning of October.
