China's Liao Guifang sweeps three golds, breaks two world records at Asian Weightlifting Championship

China's Liao Guifang claimed three gold medals in the women's 71kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old lifted 120kg in the snatch, 148kg in the clean and jerk, and 268kg in total, as the snatch and total setting new world records.

Romanian weightlifter Loredana Toma owned the previous world record in the snatch as she lifted 119 kg during the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships.

Liao also outclassed compatriot Zhang Wangli, who set the world record with a total of 167 kg during the 2018 World Weightlifting Championships

"I will continue to train hard," said Liao after the competition.

"This time I was not so stressed, I took it easy and treated this competition just like a training session, and it went much better."

The ongoing weightlifting event runs from May 5 to 13 in Jinju, South Korea.
