The Greater Wild Goose Pagoda is a massive Buddhist structure in Xian City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province. It was erected in 648 or 649 AD during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). One of the pagoda's many functions is to enshrine sutras and figurines that were brought to China from India by the 7th-century Buddhist monk, scholar and translator Xuanzang.
