Dunhuang tourism boom: Record-high visitor numbers in 2023

In 2023, Dunhuang city in Gansu Province has attracted vast crowds of tourists, notching up record-high visitor numbers in the process.

According to statistics from the cultural and tourism department of Dunhuang, in the first four months of this year, the six major scenic spots in Dunhuang, including the Mogao Caves and the Crescent Lake at Mingsha Mountain, received a total of 648,600 visitors – a 43 percent increase over 2019 and a 481 percent increase compared to 2022.
