In 2023, Kazakhstan is assuming the rotating chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As a witness of SCO development, President of Kazakhstan Tokayev shares his experience participating in the organization's growth, from its early initiatives in Shanghai in 1996 to being a regional organization with global influence today -- and he attributes the success largely to China's efforts. In response to Western doubts about the SCO, President Tokayev stresses that the uniqueness of the SCO lies in its diversified agenda, which is not limited to security and military aspects, but also covers economy, trade, investment and culture. This leaves itself more space in its future development, with more opportunities and greater potential. He promises that Kazakhstan will do its best to enhance SCO potential to benefit its peoples.
