Sirens rang in several Israeli cities on Saturday as a new batch of missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip in retaliation to the ongoing Israeli strikes.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that it is continuing to target the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip, amid the worst spate of violence between the Israelis and the Palestinians in months, which began earlier this week.

Local media in Israel said at least three people were hurt by shrapnel of rockets from Gaza on Saturday, while Palestinian media outlet Wafa news agency reported at least five people, including three children, were injured by Israeli airstrikes on the same day.

On Tuesday, Israeli fighter jets and unmanned drones carried out simultaneous and surprising airstrikes against buildings and apartments that host senior military leaders of the PIJ in the Gaza Strip.

Five days into the current round of violence, the IDF said it has neutralized several senior members of the PIJ movement's armed wing Al-Quds Brigades in operation "Shield and Arrow."

The PIJ militants have vowed counterattack and launched rockets towards Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The IDF said over 1,000 rockets have been fired towards Israel since start of its operation.

As violence continues, Palestinian sources said Egypt, Qatar, and the UN have so far failed to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas-led militant groups, including the PIJ, with at least 33 Palestinians and one Israeli being killed in the flare-up.
