Badminton: China sweep Egypt 5-0 in Sudirman Cup opener

Chinese shuttlers swept Egypt 5-0 in just 117 minutes during the Sufirman Cup opener in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province on Sunday.

The prestigious mixed team event features five matches that include singles and doubles matches for both women and men each tie. 

As the reigning champions that are determined to defend their titles, Team China did not give the African champions any chance throughout the game. World No. 7 mixed doubles pair Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping crushed Egypt's Ahmed Salah and Hana Tarek Zaher 21-3, 21-8, before China's top-ranked men's singles player Shi Yuqi secured with a comfortable win over Egypt's Adham Hatem Elgamal 21-11, 21-13.

Olympic champion Chen Yufei then thrashed Rahma Mohamed Saad Eladawy 21-2, 21-3. World No. 6 men's doubles Liu Yuchen/ Ou Xuanyi won 21-6, 21-7, aand women's doubles world third-ranked Zhang Shuxian/Zhengyu completed the game with  a 21-2, 21-4 victory.

Meanwhile, Japan, runners-up in the last two competitions, eased past England 5-0, while Denmark led by the world's top-ranked men's player Viktor Axelsen made a comeback win over Japan 4-1.

Earlier, four-time champions South Korea eased to a 4-1 victory over France, with women's world No. 2 An Se-young dispatching Qi Xuefei 21-7, 21-14 in just 35 minutes.

Chinese Taipei made an impressive two wins in a row on Monday after hammered Australia 5-0, after they eased to a 4-1 victory over India a day ago. India defeated Germany 4-1, and Indonesia swept Canada 5-0.

China will next face Singapore on Tuesday before its head-on clash against Denmark on Thursday in the group. 

China has won Sudirman Cup a record 12 times, more than any other country, including the last two competitions.

The tournament runs till May 21.
