China-Central Asia: Kyrgyzstan secures independent power grid

For years, uneven power distribution and patchy supply have hindered economic and social development in Kyrgyzstan.

The Datka-Kemin transmission line enables Kyrgyzstan to transmit electricity from a hydropower base in the southwest to an electricity consumption center in the capital city of Bishkek in the northeast, without routing through Uzbekistan as older infrastructure did. The project has helped Kyrgyzstan to secure a long-pursuing "independent power grid."

According to the National Electric Network of Kyrgyzstan, the new transmission line will also save Kyrgyzstan a lot annually in transit fees.

Nowadays, residents in northern regions of the country are no longer troubled by any disruptions to electricity supply.
