According to information released by the Myanmar National Management Council on Sunday, tropical cyclone Mocha struck Rakhine State in western Myanmar from the Bay of Bengal on Sunday. It is evaluated to be the biggest storm to hit the Bay of Bengal in over a decade. The cyclone hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar with winds of 209 kilometers per hour, causing a lot of damage to infrastructure and three deaths.

By late Sunday the storm had largely passed, sparing refugee camps housing almost a million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, where local officials said there had been no deaths. Besides, the road in the Sittwe, the capital city of Rakhine State was littered with trees, pylons and power cables.

According to latest news released by the Meteorological and Hydrological Bureau of Myanmar at noon on Monday, the power of this cyclone has already weakened, and the warning for cyclone is already lifted throughout Myanmar. Local authorities are taking measures to clear roads and helping refugees in the shelters and camps.
