China's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that a Republic of Korea (ROK) citizen suspected of taking bribes from non-state workers has been detained by the Public Security Department of Liaoning Province.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to a media query about ROK soccer player Son Jun-ho being reportedly held in police custody in northeast China in connection to a bribery case.
China is a country that follows the rule of law and handles relevant cases in accordance with the law, Wang said, adding that the Liaoning Province authorities have notified the ROK consulate general in Shenyang and will provide necessary convenience for ROK consular officials to perform their duties.
