Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu and Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada held their first phone conversation via the direct telephone line connection under the maritime-air liaison mechanism for the two countries' defense affairs departments on Tuesday, said the Chinese Defense Ministry.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and their defense relations over the phone.
The establishment and activation of the direct telephone line connection is a practical measure of implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and will effectively expand and enrich the communication channels between the defense departments of the two countries, as well as enhance the capabilities of both sides to manage and control maritime and air crisis, which is helpful to safeguard regional peace and stability.
