Five years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the general principles of eco-civilization in the New Era, emphasizing providing more quality eco-products to meet the people's growing expectations for a beautiful eco-environment. According to a poll conducted by CGTN for global internet users, more than 91.6 percent of respondents highly approve of China's efforts in eco-governance and conservation and generally support China's environmental advocacy.
China has clearly integrated "the harmony between human beings and nature" into the essential requirements of Chinese modernization, and promoted green development to build a beautiful China.
China has made great progress in eco-governance and green development in recent years. PM2.5 concentrations in major Chinese cities have fallen by 56 percent over the past decade, and the number of days with heavy pollution has decreased by 87 percent; carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP were reduced by 34.4 percent, and the proportion of fine surface water quality sections reached 87.9 percent. Nearly nine out of 10 respondents (88.7 percent) in the survey believe that China's achievements in environmental protection deserve high praise; 92.9 percent of respondents were specifically positive about China's energy conservation and emission reduction efforts.
China believes a good eco-environment is the most equal public good and offers the most inclusive well-being. 91.8 percent of respondents agree with this opinion and believe that respecting, accommodating and protecting nature can bring constant impetus for high-quality development of the economic society. Besides, 92.6 percent of respondents think that economic growth should never be pursued at the expense of the environment.
China upholds that eco-governance and protection is a global issue that needs to be addressed by all countries together. As the country with the fastest improvement in air quality, the largest scale of clean energy utilization, and the largest growth in forest resources in the world, China actively shares its experience in eco-governance and conservation with other countries, and provides Chinese solutions in areas such as desertification control, biodiversity conservation, and dealing with climate change. Some netizens commented, "China's efforts on eco-environment are beneficial and advanced, providing valuable experience and a fine example for the international community."
According to 91.6 percent of the respondents, China's cooperation with other countries around the world has demonstrated its responsibility and commitment as a major country; and as many as 95.2 percent of respondents called on countries to increase cooperation to address this global concern.
The poll was released on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, with over 32,103 people voting within 24 hours.
