Uzbekistan plans to lift half of its impoverished population out of poverty by the end of 2026. Uzbek officials were keen to learn from China's experiences in poverty alleviation during their recent visit to the country.

Over the past four decades, more than 850 million Chinese people have risen above the poverty threshold. According to the World Bank's International Poverty Standards, the number of people lifted out of poverty in China accounted for more than 70 percent of the global total over the same period.

The eradication of absolute poverty is a milestone to the improvement of people's livelihood in China and the country is open to share its experience with the world.

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong met with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov in Beijing last month to share the Chinese experience on poverty alleviation.

Following the meeting, Kuchkarov and his team made a visit to southwest China's Yunnan Province. The entourage was able to witness how the area overcame poverty through a series of development measures that are industry-driven, ecology-focused and education-based.

The field trip greatly enriched the team's understanding on how poverty alleviation methods can be applied in Uzbekistan, according to Kuchkarov. 

China and Uzbekistan have been actively cooperating to reduce poverty and achieved positive results in recent years, which serve as a highlight of the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, said Wang Wenbin, China's foreign ministry spokesperson on Tuesday.

The Uzbek government plans to pilot and popularize China's experience in poverty reduction in all states of the country, indicating the great importance that it attaches to China's experience in poverty relief, Wang said. He added that China is willing to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation with countries around the world toward poverty reduction, and make contributions to building a poverty-free world.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a state visit to China in conjunction with the China-Central Asia Summit this week where more poverty reduction cooperation between the two countries will be discussed.
