The issue of illegally employing minors has become increasingly serious. The U.S. Department of Labor has seen a nearly 70 percent increase in child labor violations since 2018. According to statistics of the Department, millions of U.S. teens were employed in agriculture, food services, retail, entertainment and construction industries in 2022, and most of them were immigrants. The U.S. is the only UN member that has not ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, having long been self-claimed as a beacon of human rights, but never extending this light to these minors.
