The Legislative Assembly of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday passed a bill proposing amendments to Macao's national security law.
The amendment to Macao's national security law is in line with the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and consistent with the provisions of the Constitution and the Basic Law of the SAR, said a spokesperson of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR.
The latest move is conducive to further improving the SAR's legal system for safeguarding national security, curbing and punishing illegal acts endangering national security, firmly upholding the rights and freedoms of Macao residents, and retaining a sound business environment in the region, the spokesperson added.
The move is also of great significance to effectively safeguard the nation's sovereignty, security, development interests and maintain long-term prosperity and stability in Macao, the spokesperson noted.
