M7.4 earthquake strikes southeast of the Loyalty Islands: USGS

A magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck southeast of the Loyalty Islands in the French territory of New Caledonia on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake was at a depth of 45 kilometers, the USGS observed.

Later, a magnitude-6.5 earthquake struck the island at a depth of 28.1 kilometers, the USGS reported.
