Yuncheng Salt Lake located in Yuncheng, Shanxi is one of the world's three largest sodium sulfate inland salt lakes.
It covers a total area of 132 square kilometers and was initially formed during the Himalayan tectonic movement approximately 65 million years ago.
As mountains rose and the sea receded, a significant accumulation of salt-containing minerals occurred here, which, after long periods of sedimentation and evaporation, resulted in the formation of this natural salt lake.
Apart from its scenic charm, Yuncheng Salt Lake holds great historical and cultural significance. Yuncheng Salt Lake has a salt mining history of over 4,600 years and was once an important source of raw materials for chemical products in the region.
Yuncheng has been nicknamed the "City of Salt Transportation" due to a long history of salt trade and logistics in the region.
