China's first cross-sea high-speed railway, the Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway in Fujian Province, started system debugging and testing on May 20. Connecting the provincial capital of Fuzhou and the port city of Xiamen, the line extends 277.42 kilometers along several port cities, including Putian, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and across three bridges over Meizhou Bay, Quanzhou Bay and Anhai Bay. Commenced in September 2017, the new railway is expected to be ready for operation by the end of September this year. With a maximum designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, it'll slash the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen from two hours to one hour.
