The Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics 128-102 in Game 3 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, on Sunday, extending their lead to 3-0 in the series.

There had been 149 teams trailing 3-0 in an NBA playoff series before this season and they all failed to come back.

Neither did the Celtics give people any reason to believe that they will be the first exception based on their performance on Sunday night. They allowed at least 30 points in every one of the four quarters at a general field goal (FG) rate of 56.8 percent. By contrast, the Celtics shot as poorly as 39.8 percent from the field in general and got only 63 points in the first three periods.

When the Celtics finally began to score like an NBA team, it was already garbage time in the fourth quarter. Four of their five starters didn't play on the court in this period. In fact, when they were playing, none of them did much good work, especially the star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The two, in TNT commentator Stan Van Gundy's words, "All-NBA guys," combined to go 12-for-35 from the field to get only 26 points.

Tatum and Brown would have been the only two Celtics scoring in double digits in Sunday's game if it weren't for garbage time during which Grant Williams, Payton Pritchard and Luke Kornet made 29 of the team's 39 points in the fourth quarter. The team made 11 of their 42 attempts from downtown on Friday and five of them were in the final period.

What may concern the Celtics more than the lost Game 3 and the 3-0 series deficit is the players' mindset. They looked passionless and lifeless on both ends of the floor. It didn't take the Heat more than three or four passes to set open shots, both under the hoop and at the 3-point line.

The Heat turned Sunday's game into a long-gone conclusion with multiple waves of scoring runs, two of which initiated by alley-oops finished by Bam Adebayo. As the team's dual offensive engines, he and Jimmy Butler scored only 29 points collectively, leaving the stage for Gabe Vincent, Duncan Robinson and Caleb Martine.

Vincent shot 11-for-14 from the floor, making six triples and all five of his attempts within the 3-point line, to drop court-high 29 points for the Heat in Sunday's game. Robinson and Martin drained five and four 3-pointers respectively. Combining to add another 40 points for the team off the bench.

Game 4 will take place at the Kaseya Center on Tuesday.
