Located in Hunan Province, the Ancient Town of Fenghuang is among the best-preserved ancient towns in China. Built in 1704, the town features several old buildings in the architectural styles of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, as well as elements of many ethnic groups. It is a gathering place for Miao, Han, Tujia and other ethnic groups. The town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2006.
