China's Wu Yibing survived a match point to beat Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6) in the first round of the Geneva Open on Monday.
Huesler forced a tie-breaker after leveling the score at 6-6 in the decisive third set.
Wu took an early lead 3-0 in the decider, only to be reversed by Huesler who scored four points straight and raced to the first match point.
Showing resilience, Wu fought back with three straight points to seal the victory. He will next confront Italy's Marco Cecchinato.
Wu, 23, became the first male singles player from the Chinese mainland to clinch a Grand Slam win at the U.S. Open in 2022 and an ATP title in the Dallas Open in February this year.
