Students and parents from across China flocked to the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong to pray for good scores in the upcoming college entrance examinations, or gaokao, in June. Candidates taking the exam were seen writing their wishes and hopes on red cards at the temple. Incense and prayers were offered at a ceremony in front of the temple of the ancient sage, to show respect for knowledge and ancient wisdom.
