A Chinese special envoy said on Tuesday that China and France share much consensus on the Ukraine crisis and the two sides should enhance close communication and coordination on major international issues and regional hotspots.

Li Hui, special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian Affairs, made the remarks during a meeting with Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry Frederic Mondoloni in Paris, France.

Hailing French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit in April, Li called on both sides to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, continuously deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and continue to make new contributions to the peace, stability and development of the world.

Based on China's 12-point paper stating its position on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, China is ready to strengthen dialogue and communication with all relevant parties to continue expanding common understandings on a political settlement of the crisis, and gradually build consensus and lay a solid foundation for a ceasefire and end of hostilities, he added.

Noting that France and China are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Mondoloni said it is important for the two countries to strengthen their dialogue on a wide range of issues, including the Ukraine issue.

France attaches great importance to the visit of Li and expects China to continue to play a constructive role for a ceasefire and end of hostilities, he said, adding that the French side is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with China.
