The Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced hope that the U.S. side will provide support and facilitation for the new Chinese ambassador to the U.S., Xie Feng, to fulfill his duties as he arrived in Washington on Tuesday.
Speaking at a regular press conference on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the ambassador is an important bridge and link of communication and cooperation between China and the U.S.
Stressing China-U.S. relationship is of great significance to both countries and the world, Mao said China has always viewed and developed China-U.S. relations in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation while firmly defending its own sovereignty, security and development interests.
She called on the U.S. side to meet China halfway and act in the shared interests of the two countries and two peoples, adding that the two sides should strengthen dialogue to manage differences, promote cooperation, and bring bilateral relations back to the right track of healthy and stable development.
