When some Western media say that the first China-Central Asia Summit is tantamount to China "taking over" the region, what does an Uzbek scholar think? Ulugbeck Khasanov, associate professor of the University of World Economics & Diplomacy in Uzbekistan, reckons that Western criticisms of China's influence in the region illustrate that cooperation between China and Uzbekistan, and with Central Asia as a whole, is a resounding success. He adds that Central Asian scholars have a positive attitude towards China's rational and pragmatic role in driving regional and global changes.
