Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has rejected claims that China has created "debt traps" for African countries, calling the allegations an attempt to defame China-Africa relations.
May marks the 30th year since diplomatic relations were established between China and Eritrea. During a state visit to the Chinese capital this month, Afwerki said in an interview that the rhetoric used by some Western media outlets is aimed at undermining China's efforts to promote cooperation across the continent.
