Will U.S. chip sanctions stop the globalization of chip design?
02:37

Scientists attending the 2023 Zhongguancun Forum predicted an open approach to making chips will likely break through the monopoly pattern amid the ongoing chip tensions in the world. In 2010, a brand-new architecture known as RISC-V was created at UC Berkeley. And because it is an open standard, everyone is free to access it and contribute to its development, unlike the prevailing instruction set architectures, which are proprietary. Many predicted that RISC-V-based chips, which have been used in everything from laptops to autonomous vehicles, would likely rule the tech industry in the next three to five years. The question remains: will U.S. chip sanctions against China stop the globalization trend of chip development?
