China launches its Shenzhou-16 manned spacecraft from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the northwest. Three Chinese astronauts, or taikonauts, Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and Gui Haichao constitutes the Shenzhou-16 crew, with Jing serving as the mission commander, Zhu the space flight engineer and Gui the payload expert. The trio will live and work in the China Space Station for about five months, and will briefly stay with the three Shenzhou-15 crew members, who are preparing to head back to Earth.
