Xi'an City's Dayan Pagoda, also known as the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, is a massive Buddhist structure in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. It was erected in 648 or 649 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). One of the pagoda's many functions is to enshrine sutras and figurines that were brought to China from India by the 7th century Buddhist monk, scholar and translator Xuanzang.
