Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss the development of the country's car industry and China-U.S. relations.

Qin stressed the importance of a healthy, stable and constructive China-U.S. relationship, saying developing China-U.S. relations is like driving a car. The driver needs to keep the steering wheel in the right direction, step on the brake when necessary to avoid danger and press the throttle at times to accelerate.

He also discussed car industry development in China with Musk, saying China is pushing forward Chinese modernization, which is characterized by a huge population, common prosperity for all and harmony between humanity and nature. It will create unprecedented growth potential and market demand, including for the new-energy automobile industry, Qin added.

He noted China is committed to providing a market-oriented, law-based and international business environment to foreign enterprises, including Tesla, to support its new energy vehicle industry.

Meanwhile, the billionaire CEO stated that the Chinese people are diligent and intelligent, and China's "development achievements are well deserved."

He emphasized Tesla's stance against "decoupling and breaking the chain," saying the company will continue to expand business in China and share China's development opportunities.
